March 14, 2017·1 Comment

Jazz, rock, funk, soul, gospel all have roots in the blues and this summer the RJO brings it all together with their 17-piece live big band performing "Roots in the Blues" and "An Evening with Denise Donatelli" throughout Reno and Lake Tahoe.

ROOTS IN THE BLUES

The Reno Jazz Orchestra's 18-piece jazz band will bring a 'Tour de Force" performance of the many shades of blue to the stage which will be wrapped with songs, swing, and soul by some of the top vocalists in the business.

Expect to hear the tunes from where the blues began to great big band interpretations of Count Basie and Duke Ellington.  From there it is off to the world of rock, funk, rhythm and blues, and a little twist of country, too!

Two extraordinary nights are on tap with top jazz musicians and celebrated vocalists Pat Esters and Trey Stone presenting performances that begin at 7:30 p.m.   The first "Roots in the Blues" concert is free as part of Artown and will be performed on July 29 at Wingfield Park in Reno, Nv.  Lake Tahoe sets the scene on July 31 where the RJO takes the stage at Sand Harbor State Park.
